Pet deers of Audrey and Frida

Wouldnt a deer make the most beautfiul pet? I can imagine them being gentle and shy but making friends with dogs and getting up to all sorts of mischief together. These two inspiring women had such pets and I think they both suit them in very different ways.

Audrey Hepburn's deer was named Pippen, called LP for short and apparently slept in a custom made bath tub!

Frida Kahlo's deer was called Granizo, which I think translates to Hail (please correct me if I'm wrong) and was the model  for her painting 'The Little Deer'.

Cover Time: Marcy's Song from Martha Marcy May Marlene

I haven't seen the film yet but I haven't been able to get this song out of my head sing I saw John Hawkes sing the first line of it in the trailer. It originally by Jackson C. Frank, but Hawkes's version of it is both beautiful and chilling. Take a listen.

New Bike

So it finally happened, new bike, he is blue, his name is Sydney and he is awesome. Now that I have a bike that actually wants to ride straight I am going to teach myself hands-free riding. I found this clip via Size Too  Small and it has inspired me to work up to the 'Laser Eye' move. Wish me luck.

 (the ZOMBIE is also good)

Happy Birthday Tom Waits

Happy 62nd Birthday to Mr Waits! The king of the gravely voice, dirty guitar and scary spoken word combo. A man made to be captured in black and white.

All photos from here

It was hard to pick a song to post here, but I thought I would just go with a popular classic...

Natalie Wood & Ken Done

I have been a fan of both Mr Done and Ms Wood for some time. Done for being an icon of kitch Australian 80's awesomeness. I admire his unrelenting push for Australian iconography in art/ commercial art and design. His bold use of colour and relaxed painting technique sum up my home town for me. So much so that when I was on the search for a new pair of togs last summer and found my self unable to find a print that appealed, I jumped on my bike and gunned it down to his shop in the Rocks and bought myself his Coral Reef one piece.

So you can imagine my delight when I saw that Natalie Wood had joined forces with Ken for the SS12 collection for her label Something Else. I love Woods interesting cuts and have admired her choice of prints in the past so I couldn't resist donning this Done (or that pun.)

I would also LOVE to get this combo, but it may be a bit over the top for my wallet...
